Great North Run 2017
Andy Bennison Charity, Blog
Congratulations to Rosemary, Natasha and Jo who yesterday managed to complete the 2017 Great North Run.
Nearly 50,000 runners were eagerly awaiting the starting pistol, enjoying the beautiful sunshine – despite awful weather forecasts.
Once the race had begun it became apparent why the GNR is one of the most famous half marathons in the world, it can take up to an hour to even reach the start line because of the volume of runners.
All three of our girls enjoyed their day passing some iconic landmarks such as the Tyne bridge, running past blow up dinosaurs and listening to the bands playing their music along the course – big shout out to Elvis too.
Newcastle represented their home town fantastically once again, showing incredible support along the route with people handing out sweets, drinks, Vaseline and even beer towards the end keeping the runner’s spirits up right to the finish line!
Rosemary has said “The best part is the down hill to the last mile along the coast line. It seems like a long mile but you know you are nearly there!” She then discussed the relief once you’ve passed the finish line, “Saint Michaels are there in the charity tent to greet us with a goodie bag, cakes, drinks and a massage!”
A successful day all round for our ladies with over £2900 raised for Saint Michael’s Hospice and three excellent finish times… same time next year maybe?
